BLEEDING KNEES CLUB + DUNE RATS + MARCH OF THE REAL FLY – WEDNESDAY APRIL 11TH
Posted by Beach Road Hotel | Filed under Music
Bleeding Knees Club are kinda of a big deal. They are also one of those painfully young acts that makes you feel unproductive because of the obscene amount of success they have garnered at such a young age. This spirally success was awarded to them for their unrepressive garage pop punk that originally began blaring out of Gold Coast and have taken them to a variety of brighter pastures. The duo have a ridiculously reckless and fun live reputation which started all this buzz in the first place and has been frothed over in the notoriously hard to please music bible that goes by the name of NME (UK magazine) who listed them within the top 50 best new bands of 2011.
At the moment they are on the eve of releasing their debut album, which they teamed up with Dev Hynes (the dude from such a legendary eclectic array of bands as Test-Icles, Lightspeed Champion and Blood Orange) as producer. Reportedly this album will be underpinned by all the reasons why many of you all fell in love with Bleeding Knees Club in the first place meaning there is going to be a lot of short fun and fast songs about girls, getting high and sticking it to the man. To celebrate the release of this LP Bleeding Knees Club coming out in the second of March they will be unleashing their riotous ruckus on Rex Room stages along side our favourite surf garage troublemakers Dune Rats and Blue Mountains fuzzers March of the Real Fly.

DZ DEATHRAYS + VELOCIRAPTOR + BLOODS – WEDNESDAY APRIL 18TH
Posted by Beach Road Hotel | Filed under Music
DZ Deathrays are made up of two main components. They were designed to play at house parties in the shady parts of Australia but of more recent times expanded their horizons (and perhaps said “shady parts”) to stretch across the globe. Now they’re ready to present the world with their debut LP, a 14 track-assault titled ‘Bloodstreams’ that represents the duo’s last four years of hard work and will be released in Australia on the 6th of April (Good Friday). Off the back of this exciting news we’re thrilled to announce that Beach Road is a stop on DZ Deathrays’ first national headline tour since April 2011, amongst a run of dates around the nation simply and somewhat obviously titled ‘The Bloodstreams Tour’.
Since the first house party they ever played, the duo have been noted as a relentless live act and 2011 proved to be no different with the two friends hitting the highways of Australia with many acts including Foo Fighters, Crystal Castles, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Fucked Up and Dananananaykroyd. They also made several trips overseas including performances at SXSW and The Great Escape, shows with Band of Skulls, Male Bonding, UMO and finally full tours of the UK with NYC punk band Cerebral Ballzy and the NME Radar tour. Upon returning to Australia in November 2011, Shane and Simon finally ventured into the studio to record their highly anticipated debut LP with Richard Pike (of PVT) and Neil Coombe at the White Room Studios in Mt Nebo. The duo spent the best part of two weeks tracking and mixing developing ‘Bloodstreams’ into the 14 tracks that now show a great development in maturity from the previous release EP’s.
Hitting the road with DZ will be Brisbane based garage party band Velociraptor (who the boys also play in). No strangers to the highways of Australia either, the 12-piece collective have been winning fans as their catchy singles grace the radio-waves of Triple J and alike. Be sure to get down early. YES!!

THE FEELERS [NZ] – SATURDAY APRIL 21ST
Posted by Beach Road Hotel | Filed under Music
THE FEELERS return to Australia stages to deliver a blistering 90 minute set, powering through the hits and premiering tracks from their new album HOPE NATURE FORGIVES. The band launch their 6 date Eastern Seaboard tour in Brisbane with a set list full of hits and fan favourites including Pressure Man, Larger Than Life, Communicate, Astronaut , Venus, As Good As It Gets, The Fear and Fishing for Lisa, Supersystem, Weapons of War and Stand Up. Plus, to coincide with the tour, the brand new single ‘Didn’t Want to Fall in Love’ will be released, as a follow up to ‘Snakes (Can’t Fix Me)’.
A momentary altercation on a Christchurch primary school football field was the catalyst for a music partnership between James Reid and Hamish Gee that has spanned almost twenty years. THE FEELERS have gone from busking on street corners to becoming one of New Zealand’s biggest bands! As the only NZ artists to have released 5 Multi -Platinum albums they are arguably one of the country’s most successful recording groups in the last 14 years.
The band have amassed over a quarter of a million in album sales, 3 #1 albums ,7 #1 singles and have received more airplay than any band or artist in New Zealand since 1999. James Reid is a man with an extraordinary ability to write compelling catchy songs.
Joining The Feelers on stage will be Gasoline Inc! who stormed into 2012 with a dynamic new EP THE WANTED ONE. With powerful melodies and driving guitar riffs, it proves again the bands ability to write and produce well-crafted insatiable rock songs with universal appeal. Gasoline Inc! have well and truly cut their teeth playing the pubs and clubs circuit in Australia, an experience that has served them well in developing an incredibly energetic and entertaining live show that highlights their musical diversity and skilled musicianship.
VAN SHE w/ MADE IN JAPAN + SWIMWEAR – WEDNESDAY APRIL 25TH
Posted by Beach Road Hotel | Filed under Music
Van She have released their 2nd record, and invite you to come and see their Idea Of Happiness. So uplifting it’s practically levitational, Idea Of Happiness is Van She’s most focused, joyous musical excursion to date.
An album stirred by sunbaked travels and fleeting truths, and shaken with the sands of time, Idea Of Happiness was recorded, engineered and produced by the band themselves in Kings Cross, Sydney. Their self-sufficient approach to the record allowed them the time and space to not only fine tune to the nth degree each cymbal splash and crashing wave sample, but also left them free to give ideas the time and space to hang loose. They may have walked a slow, deliberate path to realising album #2 but the result is all the better for it.
The record was mixed in Los Angeles with Tony Hoffer, the perfect man for the job with a resume that includes work with Beck, Air, Phoenix and M83.
Fluid tropical rhythms saturated in slinky synth bass and the atmosphere from mid summer night dreams. Club (Med) ready coconut funk, mojito pop, prom night slow jams. Catamaran rock, whimsical Fleetwood Mac rips, and unapologetic love songs. This is Van She’s Idea Of Happiness. It’s relaxed but precisely sharp, savvy but not up tight, extremely open and sincere but always on the right side of cringe-worthy. Above all Idea Of Happiness is fun and from the heart, just like it should be.
Idea Of Happiness is an ecstatic air punch of a 2nd effort and one Van She and Modular are incredibly proud to share very soon. Drop the attitude and drink it in.
